You do not want the camera watching you at all. AirPosture is US$17 once and reads AirPods motion sensors only, no camera, Apple silicon and macOS 14 required. SitTall is US$5.99 once and reads AirPods or headphone motion. Both run as Mac menu bar apps. Posture Pal is iPhone-first but also has a macOS 14 build and reads headphone motion.

You want a free app, not a paid one. Straighty is free on the Mac App Store (macOS 15 and later). Dorso is free on GitHub and Homebrew under MIT, and US$4.99 on the App Store.

You want a menu-bar-only app that does not take over the screen. Kamae, SitTall and AirPosture live in the menu bar and do not fill your screen. Dorso blurs or borders the screen, so it is not a pure menu bar app. Slouch Sniper dims the screen when you slouch.

If no camera is available, Kamae falls back to a sit timer so the 45-minute stand-up reminders keep working. There is an in-app connection log so you can see every network call Kamae has made.

Dorso is the open-source option. The GitHub and Homebrew builds are free under MIT; the App Store build is US$4.99. It runs on macOS 13 and later, and on macOS 14 or later it can also read AirPods motion. Its signature move is to progressively blur your screen when you slouch.

Straighty is a free webcam-based app on macOS 15 and later. The App Store listing says all processing happens locally on your Mac. It pairs a sloth companion with Pomodoro sessions and stretch-break prompts.

AirPosture is a US$17 one-time app that reads AirPods motion only. It requires Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later, runs a five-second calibration, and beeps through the menu bar when your head stays forward. No camera, no free trial — but there is a 30-day refund window.

SitTall is a US$5.99 one-time app that reads AirPods or headphone motion and never uses a camera. The developer states the app collects no data. No free trial is stated.

StopSlouching is a webcam-based app that runs in the browser, as a Chrome extension, and as a Windows desktop app. Pro (monthly, yearly or a US$39.99 lifetime licence) covers all three surfaces. Firefox and Safari detect posture only while the tab is on screen. It is not a menu-bar-only app.

Posture Pal is primarily iPhone-first (iOS 17 and later) with a macOS 14 and later build. It reads headphone motion, uses characters like a giraffe to nudge you, and can adjust your music's volume by posture. Pro is US$19.99 one-time, or weekly, monthly and yearly subscriptions.
